Let's start at the beginning. The 4/4 time signature with eighth notes on the hi-hat and a backbeat on the snare. A crucial beat that every drummer must be able to play. Learn them all, and playing along with songs will be a piece of cake!
Oh yes, counting is so important; nobody likes it, but just do it for a moment. Of course, you don't have to do it all the time. Learned now, will benefit you greatly later!!!

Basic 4/4 Beats
On this page, you practice playing bass drums in different positions. The snare drums and hi-hats remain in the same place.

You can hear the rhythms by pressing the play symbol. You can also make the tempo faster or slower. Each rhythm consists of one measure with the hand placement and one measure with how to count along.

R=right (always plays the hi-hat)
L=Left (always plays the snare)
R/L = right and left at the same time
Left-handed drummers play all rhythms mirrored.
